The annual Bainbridge Island Boater’s Fair lands at Waterfront Park tomorrow, June 20, which happens to be National Marina Day. The goal of the fair is to entice you to partake in the many boating activities available on an Island and especially Bainbridge and to help you do so safely. The fair’s offerings range from diving to water rescue to . . . hot dogs.
Rowing. The Bainbridge Island Rowing Club is offering a one-hour free hands-on preview of the sport at the heart of the Boys in the Boat.
Sailing. The Bainbridge High School Sailing Team will show you how to crew and hoist and trim the sails of a Flying Junior sailboat in Eagle Harbor.
Paddling. Feeling medieval? Take part in the Canoe Tug of War or the Stand Up Paddleboard Joust.
Boating Safety. The Coast Guard Auxiliary will teach you knot-tying, cruise planning, and about vessel inspections.
Buoys, Floats, & Anchors. Expert diver Bruce MacLay will teach you the finer points of keeping your vessel from floating away.
Boats. You can tour a 45′ Coast Guard Cutter, the Bainbridge Island Police Department’s 33′ safe boat Marine 8, the 26′ Suquamish Tribe Fisheries boat, and the 85′ Seattle Fire Boat Chief Seattle.
City Dock Improvements. City staff want to share with you the latest on the City dock improvements, marine water quality, and volunteer programs.
Helicopter Rescue. Watch a simulated Coast Guard water rescue.
Water Trails. Get your Kitsap Water Trails map and learn about the Paddle Bainbridge event.
Clean Boating. Washington Sea Grant will equip you with free pumpout kits and talk about preventing sewage spills and oil spills.
Massage. Living Well massage therapists will soothe paddle-sore shoulders.
And, don’t forget, there will be hot dogs. The fair runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
